Gorgeous Book!

You know how much I like a pretty book. Children's books have really surprised me recently because they seem to be getting more and more adorable.  I found this one a library at school and I absolutely loved the quirkiness of the story and the fun and trendy illustrations.
Who Wants to be a Poodle? I don´t! by Lauren Child, is a fun stylish book about a poodle who's a bit of a diva!.  It is packed with patterns and colours and will definitely put a smile in your face.  Hope you like it, Love Moni!

Design Stars!

I can finally share with you the Design Stars competition winners & nominees!

As you know I've been back to Liverpool a fair bit over the last six months as I was asked to lead the new surface pattern category for the 2011 Design Stars challenge. This involved writing briefs, delivering workshops & talks & visiting many schools with the Liverpool area. I also had to judge the huge amount of entries we received (which was very hard & a bit overwhelming) & select the 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize winners & nominees. We also held a screen printing masterclass weekend too where all of the nominees took part.

There was a lovely awards ceremony too where I got to present my category awards, it's all been great fun & I've loved every minute of it! So a huge thank to the Design Initiative they really are a inspiring organisation & have been a pleasure to work with. I feel very honoured to have been a part of it.

And the SURFACE PATTERN DESIGN CATEGORY WINNER IS...

1st place went to CORINNE MALONE, age15, Holly Lodge Girls’ College. I just adored Corrine's design & complimentary print as it instantly caught my eye. Her edgy colour palette & unique style worked really well & the designs were really fresh & contemporary. Corrine also had her own distinct style & her supporting artwork & sketches reflected her natural talent for surface design.

Well done Corrine!:)

In 2nd place ABBIE DUTY, age14, Broughton Hall High & in 3rd place HANNAH MACKENZIE, age 15, Holly Lodge Girls’ College.

I just loved Abi's striking silhouettes & cool colour palette. I thought she had great clean commercial style too (image above)
Abi is just age 14! Wow!

I thought Hannah's design (above) was bright, fun & quirky. It was really refreshing to see a different approach & choice of subject matter.  I thought she had a distinct style & I loved her fun sketchbook too!

Well done to all of our three prizewinners! I was super impressed by their designs & standard of work. They all had great sketchbooks & thorough research too (which was all required as part of the brief)

First prizewinners received an iPod Nano, second places won either an iPod Shuffle or Gamstation vouchers, and all third placed entrants were awarded Top Shop vouchers.

All 38 nominees received certificates of achievement in recognition of their hard work and great designs.

An exhibition of all the winners and nominees will be on display at the Design Show at St George’s Hall, as part of Liverpool Design Festival, from 6th to 9th October 2011. The next Design Stars competition will also be launched during the Festival.

Sunshine Bakery

Cupcakes!  Petite, pretty, colourful, sweet.  These little bits of joy have become a favourite within the pattern industry lately, we can see them in clothes, accessories, photographs, but if you think back, when was the last time you actually had one?  I don't know about you but I don't often eat cupcakes, they are lovely to look at but usually too big and extra sweet.
Well last week I came across to an absolutely lovely bakery that changed my mind.  Sunshine Bakery is located at Chapel Allerton in Leeds and headed by David Bennett.  It is a charming little place that resembles a French Patisserie with quirky non matching dinnerware and a soulful atmosphere.  Voted as the Best Cupcake in Britain, you won't be disappointed, it is a splendid place for a coffee and cake or lunch.  So add it to your to-do list and if you don't live around, an amazing cupcake will surely be the perfect excuse to visit. See you next week. Love Moni!

I was lucky enough to be have one of my Cow Parsley prints featured in the July issue of Ideal Home Magazine. I was contacted a while back for samples & the tea towels were actually used in the home photo shoot. I thought the room was styled lovely & the print complimented the 'Muted Country' look well.

Thank you to everyone at Ideal Home magazine, much appreciated x

*We also have this print in mauve, sea green & apple green & have matching aprons & oven mitts too. For sales & stockist information please visit our website.

Card Samples

Happy Monday everyone, hope you all had a lovely weekend!

I'm back on the blog this week & I have lots of lovely things to share too. It's been very chaotic lately but all good fun too.

Today I'm posting some card samples I recently received from the lovely team at tigerprint.uk. I designed these last year & they are now in store at marksandspencer. I love receiving work samples it's great & it's nice to see the hard work pay off. I'm very lucky to have my work on a variety of products too.

The first card posted is based around surface pattern (which I'm known for creating) but the other cards are purely typographic. I love creating hand drawn type & I now regularly receive typography commissions from a variety of companies too (I'll post further examples of this when I can)

*I was super chuffed that they used the caption I wrote on the friend card, I thought it was very true!

I designed the second image (far right) for a Mother's Day card then I was asked to design friend card too both available to buy at Marks & Spencer!
(I LOVE working on typography!)

Colour!

Last week I was back in Liverpool for the #DesignStars ceremony (as I was presenting a few awards, more on that to come this week) I quickly popped into the huge sale at Topshop too! Whilst in store, I spotted a gorgeous display of colour & thought it was beautiful & would actually make a great piece of art for the home too!

(I'm a queen of multi tasking:) I always find little pockets of inspiration everywhere I go.

The Design Files

Happy Thursday!
Today I would like to share with you a blog I like to visit frequently.  The Design Files is a wonderful blog written by Australian Lucy Feagins. It has existed since 2008 and since then it has sky-rocketed and become well known around the world.  It is quite a fun blog where you can find al sorts of articles surrounding the arts.  I really like it's Interviews feature which introduces loads of exciting designers, writers and artists.  Although it has a main focus on Australian talent it is a refreshing easy to use blog.  Have a little look here.  Hope you like it! Love Moni!
