Artist Review: Ben Giles

I am thrilled to be able to share some inspirational art with you every Tuesday morning as Rachael's new 'Art and Creative Writer'. This week, we're showcasing an emerging new talent, Ben Giles.

Born in Suffolk, England, Ben is a 20 year old fine art student with an exciting mixed media approach including video, photography, drawing and painting. He has a surreal way of juxtaposing motifs, often repurposing vintage photos into multi-coloured collages.

I can't claim the credit for discovering his work, that goes to my 14 year old daughter who is a big fan of the super-cool 'Rookie Yearbook' by Tavi Gevison, which has featured some of the images created by Ben below.

Ben has a Facebook page with lots more information, a website and a shop where you can acquire your own piece of this up and coming creative star's work. More inspiration next week! Justine x

Cape Verde Islands!

I was lucky enough to spend the Christmas break over in the beautiful Cape Verde Islands, I escaped the doom & gloom of Winter in the UK & replaced it with 11 relaxing days in the stunning sunshine. Since launching my own company & joint ventures such as The Art & Business of Surface Pattern Design (the e-course) & MOYO Magazine I promised myself that I'd take a very lazy holiday! I'm truly blessed that I get to travel a fair bit with my design work & I LOVE city breaks but now & again it's nice to do just nothing.

I'm naturally inspired by everything around me; from finding beautiful colours to patterns & textures. Here are a few of my favourite snapshots from my trip!
