York National Railway Museum

Happy Monday everybody!

Today I am sharing with you some fantastic photographs taken at the York National Railway Museum. There was such a collection of signs, posters, dials and inspirational shapes and colours that I couldn't help but start snapping away! For anybody who thinks the museum is just for children I insist you check it out! There are some amazing objects to look at such as old ticket machines and old railway signs (see below). However if you do have kids, they will love the Hogwarts Express train, I know I did! It is also free!

Asian food

Happy Monday folks!

Something a bit different for you today in the form of vegetarian Asian food! The colour, textures and of course the taste of Indian food is fantastic, and so culturally inspiring. I had a go at making some classic Gujurati (West Indian) recipes taken from the lovely Hansa Dabhi's cookbook which can be bought on Amazon. There are some stunningly vivid colours that can be taken from the ingredients and the recipes as inpsiration as well as the textures such as the stripes running along the ginger and garlic or the veins of the fresh coriander.

Leeds City Museum - Pharaoh: King of Egypt Exhibition

Happy Monday all!

I am bringing a bit of cultural inspiration to the blog today in the form of the wonderful Leeds City Museum exhibition, 'Pharaoh: King of Egypt', as part of the British Museum Tour. The exhibition started on the 11th February and will end on the 17th June, and has free entry, as does the rest of the museum!

There are some amazing pieces exhibited, extremely inspiring for their patterning and colours such as turqiouses, rich reds and browns. The use of heiroglyphics is particularly inspiring, with its beautifully decorative, fluid form. Texture is also of huge importance to the decorative nature of the pieces, specifically the papyrus manuscripts, with their leafy textures.

The museum as a whole is well worth a visit, not least because it is free! They have wonderful permanent exhibitions including 'The Leeds Story' with some fantastic personal accounts and some beautiful vintage pieces on show. There is also a 'World Cultures' floor in which the musuem has it's very own mummy!
Check out the musuem on it's website or visit the museum itself in Millennium Square. Opening times are 10am-5pm Tuesday to Friday and 11am-5pm Saturday and Sunday.
