Fashion Illustration Friday

Happy Friday folks!

Kelly again :)

When comp shopping for Rachael last Friday I found a card with a beautiful fashion illustration on the front and we liked the image so much we have decided to dedicate a whole post to David Downton the artist of the lovely image. He uses a combination of bold colours, dark lines and beautiful detail to create almost whimsical, glamorous designs. If you check out his website you'll also find some fantastic celebrity portraits he has drawn. He also has a blog here.

Enjoy! And thanks for reading my ramblings!

Kelly :)

#surfacepatternecourse

Happy Thursday everyone:)

Today is a special blog post about a very exciting new e-course project I've been working on in collaboration with the truly inspiring entrepreneur Beth Nicholls. Beth runs a fantastic e-course of her own that has been described as "life changing" she was also chosen as one of the UK’s 16 most exciting young female entrepreneurs, and awarded a place on Marie Claire magazine’s groundbreaking Inspire & Mentor programme.  This exciting collaboration came about at a perfect time and really has been a pleasure to work on.

For those of you who follow the blog will know I've been involved in numerous teaching projects over the past couple of years and I was also invited to speak at the ground breaking Do What You Love art & creative enterprise retreat. I truly have fell in love with, teaching, sharing (& hopefully) inspiring others. I feel very blessed to be a part of the fascinating world of surface pattern design & hope to inspire others on their own creative journeys.

The past few months have been extremely busy and hard work but the energy & drive shared between myself & Beth has been great. I'm really excited about the launch of our new collaboration. It has been a huge honor to work alongside Beth as she really is a mover and shaker in the creative world!

Virginia Graham

Hey everyone!  The summer is ending and we'll soon be getting ready to cozy up and say goodbye to the flowers and leaves.  I say we all bring the flowers into our homes, good thing the floral trend is not going anywhere and here is a good idea on some gorgeous spring filled home accessories.

I absolutely love the work of British artist and ceramist Virginia Graham.  All her products are handmade and have an air of classy nostalgia, I like to call them new antiques.  She uses a lot of the different techniques that give her pieces a certain similarity to classic pieces.
I really like the quirky shapes with the familiar colours, the gorgeous patterns in the classic structure.  These are truly beautiful pieces of art that will give character to you home decor.  Here's her website, have a look! Enjoy your day, Love Moni!

Colour around Leeds

Hey guys, Kelly again!

Hope everyone is enjoying their Wednesday!

I'm sharing some more images from my comp shopping for Rachael last Friday, but this time the theme is colour. I noticed several types of colour palettes ranging from brights to pastels but the dominant trend is of course autumn, so several displays included browns, oranges and reds with motifs of birds and leaves. The following photos are taken from the window displays of Accessorise, BHS, Clinton's, Harvey Nichols, Monsoon, Mulberry, New Look, Paperchase and Ryman's.

Enjoy! Kelly :)

Type around Leeds

Hey folks!

Kelly Rachael's work placement here, and continuing on from the type theme from Monday, I am sharing some photos I took while comp shopping for Rachael last Friday. There are some really interesting window displays happening at the moment and a common trend of type has filtered down from fashion and interiors. The following images are taken within Leeds city centre from the displays at a new Costa, FCUK, H&M, Harvey Nichols, Levi's and Paperchase.

Enjoy! Kelly :)

Texture

Hey guys!

This is Kelly, Rachael's work placement for the next couple of weeks! It's lovely to be working with her and to get to post some interesting stuff on her blog! Speaking of which, I've been researching into textures for the last couple of days as both me and Rachael find them fascinating. I think you'll agree I found some lovely images of a variety of textures from some surprising sources.  Blogs can be an amazing resource, click here for some of the textures I found, and for Nancy Judd's Eco-Trash couture click here.

Enjoy! Kelly :)

And this is mine and Rachael's favourite:

This is mine and Rachael's favourite from a French artist called Armel Barraud, click here for more of his stunning work.

Enjoy, Kelly :)

Andy Smith Illustration

Meet Andy Smith!  This British Illustrator has a created a name for himself and has a long list of impressive clients. He has done work for newspapers, book covers, prints and loads of other fun projects.
He combines Illustration and typography.  His work is handmade to give it a tactile feel and often features lettering and interesting phrases in it.  I like his quirky characters and the messages that almost always have a fun, funny, positive feel to them.  Check out his website for more of his work.  See you next Thursday, Love Moni!
